About the Event
On the occasion of Art Paris 2026, MALA Gallery presents "From Line to Sign", an exhibition dedicated to the place of gesture and line in the history of abstraction, bringing together artists of the 20th century and contemporary creation in a sensitive dialogue between different pictorial languages.
Conceived by Baptiste Lopez, this exhibition brings together around twenty works, placing major figures of modern art — František Kupka, Jean Degottex, Christian Dotremont, André Masson, Serge Poliakoff, Victor Vasarely, Hans Hartung and Georges Mathieu — in conversation with contemporary artists such as Bernard Frize, Fabienne Verdier, Agathe Toman and Emmanuel Lendenmann.
Throughout this journey, the line becomes in turn trace, rhythm, structure or writing, revealing the richness of approaches to abstraction and the way in which pictorial gesture crosses generations. The exhibition thus offers a transversal reading of abstraction, where modern heritage and contemporary creation engage in dialogue around one essential question:…
